Whether jogging, hiking, fitness, or indoor sports – sports shoe manufacturers suggest to us that for every sport you need a specific high-performance shoe. Does a really good sports shoe need a heel, cushioning, and support elements? Far from it! Why the opposite is the case, how shoes with strong cushioning can actually harm the body, and why our shoes are the right choice for almost every sport, we explain to you in this article.

Walking barefoot is the most natural form of locomotion one can imagine, and yet nowadays we rely on shoes that seem more innovative than the other. Especially in sports, this doesn't necessarily make sense. A study by evolutionary biologist Daniel Liebermann of Harvard University from 2010 found that modern shoes are responsible for numerous orthopedic problems. In the study, Liebermann discovered that barefoot runners land first on the forefoot or midfoot, whereas runners with cushioned shoes land on the heel. The barefoot runners thereby stressed the musculoskeletal system significantly less. Paradoxically, the joints and bones are more strained when running with cushioned footwear.

What makes barefoot shoes special in sports?

Get used to your new training partner slowly! 

But beware: If you want to train with our shoes in the future to provide long-term relief for your body, you must not rush anything! Your muscles, tendons, and ligaments are probably still used to being supported and cushioned – so far, the work has been taken off them. Your body needs time to get used to the new conditions and to build up its own resilience again. You should give your body at least three months to gradually get used to your barefoot shoes before completely switching to them for your training!
